So who were the Sants de la Pedra?
The Sants de la Pedra, (Saints of the Stone) were Abdo and Senen, two brothers who lived in the the now Capital city of Kurdistan, Corbledula. They were taken to Rome as a result of their beliefs after being found stealing bodies of Martyrs killed by the Romans, and burying them according to the Christian faith.
The then Roman Emperor, Decius, AD254 asked them renounce their beliefs, which they refused to do, so they were ordered to be killed by Lions in the Collesium, however this did not go to plan as the Lions did not attack them, as a result they were killed by Gladiators.
If you search for the Fiesta Sants de la Pedra you will find many places in Spain that celebrate them, historically these all take place during the gap between the harvesting of the raisins, halfway through the summer, and just before the twelve days of August that incidentaly indocate the weather for the following year.
